ACADEMICS
Common Core Language Arts Courses As the standards of the Common Core curriculum continually challenge students to reach high academic scores, we understand how important it is for students to improve, sustain, and advance their knowledge to be competitive with their grades. We offer instructions that run parallel to the Common Core essentials. Students will gain plenty of practice in reading and understanding complex text, analyzing literary and informational evidence, and writing in an academic language that is expected from their grade-level. We want to prepare our students with literary skills needed to succeed in high school, college, and career. Common Core Math The Common Core Math standards concentrate on skills that require students to solve real-world problems. Our curriculum follows the requirements set forth by the initiative. Depending on the student’s grade level, great focus will be given on skills that are required for them to know. Significant amount of time is placed on understanding procedural skills and fluency on those specific concepts – ultimately leading to a strong foundation. We gradually build the rigor of our curriculum and we ultimately strive to challenge our students to apply their gained skills. Social Studies Students will explore key events and developments in human civilization. Key skills that we emphasize are reading comprehension, summarizing, analysis of evidence within text, computer-based research and the use of online educational software – MS Office and Google Drive, as well as team projects and formal presentations. Our curriculum provides plenty of practice in project planning, research, and creativity. Depending on the student’s grade-level, students will be studying materials that are parallel to their academic standards. Mad Science New Light Learning Center will now host a 10-week Summer Science Camp, an interactive course featuring hands-on and fun science experiments! We invite all young science enthusiasts who are in grades 3 – 8 to participate in this wonderful opportunity. Experiments range from Life, Physical, and Earth Science, as well as Engineering concepts. Due to the wide age range, we do cater our activities towards middle school age levels so that they are appropriate for both younger and older students. Depending on the overall number of registrations, we will group each grade to the correct level of difficulty for each experiment. We engage with all our students by asking about meaningful, fundamental science questions behind each activity. Our goal is to inspire a sense of investigation and experimentation of the scientific method. We want our students to be inspired within the sciences, which will ultimately leads to a rich summer experience! |
